Why?

The motivation for developing PFrank came about for several reasons.

I had done alot of programming up until about 7 years ago but had not done much other than the odd script since then. I was looking for a major make-work project so that I could resurrect programming skills of old.
I had been using stream editor (via Cygwin) based scripts to handle bulk renaming of files. Developing a bulk renaming tool that runs under Windows seemed like an interesting project and one that would fill a need.

The Python programming language had been suggested as a powerful language with which to do PC programming. After some research, it was apparent that Python in conjunction with wxPython had all the features that were required. Both are also well supported by an active user community plus both have on-line availability of a wide variety of source code, demo software, and tutorials.
